Councils play a vital role in encouraging integration and cohesion across Wales’ diverse communities. They work to eliminate discrimination, harassment, and victimisation of people with protected characteristics; advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it.

As a WLGA, we support local government at a national level in this important work by working closely with Welsh Government, the Equalities and Human Rights Commission [Commission in Wales | Equality and Human Rights Commission (equalityhumanrights.com] and other partners. We also seek to promote diversity in local democracy by working to attract voices from under-represented groups to stand in local elections.
