Lifelong Learning
Local government is delivering for learners in Wales by setting the highest possible standards for the education system and by delivering critical local services that support our children and young people. Council education services significantly impact everyday life and outcomes for future generations, for example, from ensuring that there is sufficient childcare provision, to improving outcomes for learners in schools, to supporting the delivery of youth services and adult learning. The WLGA work in close partnership with Welsh Government and councils to promote and protect the role of local government in the provision of these key lifelong learning services.
To achieve our vision, the WLGA promotes the roles of councillors and works closely with officers and networks across all councils in Wales to help raise standards. The WLGA works with all stakeholders to champion and secure long-term and sustainable funding for councils and to ensure that there is maximum local discretion in education policies, legislation or statutory guidance. By promoting sector-led improvement the WLGA can support councils, elected members and officers in the achievement of best practice.
In partnership with a wide range of organisations like the Association of the Directors of Education in Wales (ADEW), we aim to influence national education policy and continue to improve outcomes for learners in Wales.
