Responding to Welsh Government’s announcement of the new Cabinet, WLGA Leader Councillor Debbie Wilcox (Newport) said:

“I would like to congratulate Alun Davies AM on his appointment as the new Cabinet Secretary for Local Government. He has already shown diligence, tenacity and unquestionable commitment in his previous role as Minister for Welsh and Lifelong Learning, and I look forward to continue to work with him in his new role.”

“I would also like to pay tribute to Mark Drakeford AM for his work in leading the local government portfolio. Historically, it is fair to say that the relationship between local government and central government hasn’t always been the easiest. But the inclusive, constructive and partnership approach taken by Mark during his time in the role has brought local and Welsh Government on an even keel to make progress together in a range of matters, including not least local government reform and responding to huge financial pressures.”

“We will look forward to continue to work with Mark Drakeford AM in his role as Cabinet Secretary for Finance, and with Alun Davies AM as the new Cabinet Secretary for Local Government.”
