Learners across Wales are today celebrating their hard work and achievements, as attainment of higher grades reached a record high.

The number of learners achieving A – A* grades has risen from 26.3% in 2018 to 27% this year, and A – C grades remained stable with an overall pass rate of 76.3%

97.8% of candidates achieved the Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificate.

There was a small increase of 0.2 percentage points in both the candidates who achieved the qualification (97.8%) and those achieving A*- A grades (21.7%) this year. 4.6% achieved an A* grade, an increase of 0.7% when compared with 2018.

Councillor Debbie Wilcox (Newport), WLGA Spokesperson for Education said:

“Today is a big day for learners across Wales who have worked hard to achieve their grades. I would like to congratulate them all on their achievements and wish them all the very best in whichever path they choose to pursue.

“On results day, it is also important to remember the vital role played by families, teachers and school staff in supporting and encouraging every learner to reach their full potential. Everyone who’s involved in the education system in Wales are firmly committed to give the best opportunities to learners and to provide a supportive environment for them to thrive and develop as rounded individuals.”
