Responding to the publication of an independent report by the Decarbonisation of Homes Advisory Group, WLGA Spokesperson for Housing Councillor Andrea Lewis (Swansea) said:

“This report today is a valuable contribution in our shared efforts to ensure houses in Wales are more energy efficient. Local government and social landlords are in no doubt of the scale of the challenge involved, not least due to Wales’ current housing stock being the least efficient in Europe, and will look forward to working with Welsh Government to explore how we can overcome the resource implications.”

“As social landlords, local authorities have prioritised energy efficiency as part of their work in building social and affordable housing for the first time in decades. Retrospectively making our current housing stock more energy efficient will be another important step in cutting emissions and to become more environmentally responsible.”

“For local authorities and Welsh Government, decarbonising our current housing stock will be critical to make sure Wales successfully manages to achieve ambitious environmental targets. But more importantly, this work will produce tangible benefits for residents by increasing fuel efficiency and combating fuel poverty.”
